Beaches to take your dog in the province of Malaga

The love for animals and an awareness of the need to respect and protect them is fortunately on the rise. Dogs, in particular, have become important members of the family: more and more families take their pets on holiday so as to not leave them on their own and lonely. To answer any questions you might have, we have put together a list of beaches to visit with your dog in the province of Malaga. Make a note of these!

Dog-friendly beaches in Malaga

In 2015, the local government of Andalusia stated that pets can only go on beaches where the water is not suitable for swimming. For places where you can swim, dogs are only allowed to visit outwith bathing season.

However, some places have continued to allow dogs to enjoy a dip in the summer, without this resulting in a fine for the family.

Castillo Sohail beach

This beach is in Fuengirola, just at the end of the Castillo Sohail promenade. It is sandy and quite big. Dogs over 20 kg must keep to urban rules like wearing a muzzle. Animals must also be kept under supervision.

Arroyo Totalán beach

This beach is between Malaga and Rincón de la Victoria. This beach does not have time restrictions for dogs, although certain rules must be adhered to, like carrying a dog’s documentation or using a muzzle on potentially dangerous breeds.

Piedra Paloma beach

This dog beach is in Casares, next to Estepona. Piedra Paloma beach is very close to the old canine beach, La Sal, which closed when the 2015 local government regulations came into force. One of the basic rules that must be adhered to is picking up excrement. As well as that, this wonderful place is practically deserted, it only has one beach bar.

Torre del Mar dog beach

The Torre del Mar dog beach, near the mouth of the Vélez River, stretches over 4,000 square metres. It offers several services for dogs like a litter tray and a playground with tunnels, ramps and swings. There are also fountains and bins. Rules state that you must carry documentation and supervise dogs at all times.

Soon there will be more places to take your dog for a swim in Malaga

There are other beaches where local councils are keen to let dogs enjoy the sea. However, they are waiting for approval from the Government of Andalusia. These are the El Pinillo beach in Marbella; Ventura de Mar beach, also in Marbella and Benalcan beach, in Benalmádena.
