Equestrian tourism on the Costa del Sol

Equestrian sport has become increasingly popular on the Costa del Sol, attracting many horse riding enthusiasts to Malaga.

And no wonder, since its numerous racecourses and riding centres have allowed equestrian tourism to develop exponentially.

So, if you want to go horse riding in Malaga, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about the different equestrian routes.

Because there is nothing better than enjoying the Costa del Sol, with its Mediterranean beaches, its gastronomy and, of course, its horse riding.

What are equestrian centres?

Equestrian centres, also known as riding centres or pony clubs, are professionalized spaces where you can learn to ride a horse for the first time.

They are centres designed for everyone, regardless of age, so they can be enjoyed with the whole family, as it is possible to take lessons with ponies, a harmless breed of horse that is perfect for beginners in equestrian sports.

On the other hand, if you want something more relaxed, there is the possibility of horse riding routes, either on the beach or in the mountains, accompanied by a professional instructor to guarantee maximum safety.

As a curiosity, some of these centres offer shows, with many references to Andalusian culture, making it a highly recommended option for enjoying tourism on the Costa del Sol with the whole family.

What are Hippodromes?

Unlike equestrian centres, hippodromes are venues dedicated exclusively to professional horse racing.

These races take place on closed tracks, although there are also open tracks available, known as cuadreras, more typical of the rural world.

The types of tracks can be either dirt or grass, an important feature, as the terrain defines the type of horse racing to be conducted.

In general, racecourses are intended for the visual entertainment of the races, without the possibility of interacting with the horses, as they are fully trained for competition.

However, there are specialized centres that offer both services, racecourse and equestrian centre.
