Nueva Andalucía was built in the 1960s as part of a wider urbanisation plan for the Costa del Sol, which aimed to attract foreign tourists and investors. It was designed by Swedish architect Nils Hallenborg, who was inspired by the style of traditional Andalusian architecture.
Construction of Nueva Andalucía began in 1963, and over the following decades, the neighbourhood experienced rapid development. Numerous villas, flats and resorts were built, and infrastructure such as roads, water supply, electricity and telecommunications were improved.
In the 1970s, Nueva Andalucía expanded up the hill to La Quinta, where some of the most exclusive resorts in the area were built. Today, La Quinta is one of the most luxurious neighbourhoods in Nueva Andalucía, with breathtaking panoramic sea and mountain views.
