Solheim Cup 23 to be held on the Costa del Sol

The 2023 Solheim Cup women’s golf tournament will be held on the Costa del Sol, specifically at Finca Cortesín, the first time it will be held in Spain.

What is the Solheim Cup?

The Solheim Cup is the Women’s Ryder Cup, a golf tournament where two teams (one formed by American players and the other by European players) participate to obtain such a valuable title.

This tournament began to be played in 1990, being the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, in Florida (USA), the chosen place.
Since then it has been held in different places in Europe and the United States, but this year it will be held for the first time in Spain.

Like the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup will be held over three days, in this case on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of September, the perfect weekend for any golf lover who will be able to attend by buying single tickets or the tournament pass so as not to miss a single day.

Which women golfers will participate in the 2023 Solheim Cup?

The European team will include 12 players according to the competition criteria, which is as follows:

The top two players in the LET Solheim Cup points ranking at the end of the qualification period, based on LET Solheim Cup points accumulated in all ranking events during the qualification period.
The top six players in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings at the end of the qualifying period who are not already ranked as above.
Four players selected by the captain of the European Solheim Cup Team.

As for the U.S. team, the 12 players selected will be based on different criteria:

The top seven players on the US Solheim Cup points list at the end of the qualifying period, based on points accumulated in all qualifying events during the qualifying period.
The two highest-ranked players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings at the end of the qualifying period who are not already ranked above.
Three players selected by the captain of the US Solheim Cup team.

Finca Cortesín, an unrivalled setting for the Solheim Cup

Located on the Costa del Sol, specifically in the town of Casares, Finca Cortesín is considered one of the best golf courses in our country.
It has 18 holes to enjoy a great tournament, as in this case the Solheim Cup, and some very different characteristics from the rest of European golf courses, among which we can highlight:

Excellent climate: with more than 320 days of sunshine and its proximity to the sea, the temperature of this location is ideal for playing golf outdoors as well as for those who want to participate in a golf tournament as a spectator.
Flora: its landscaping was designed by Gerald Huggan, who took into account the harmony of the native flora to obtain a visually attractive and sustainable course, in which there are up to 20 different species of plants and trees typical of the Mediterranean landscape.
Ecological grass: since 2017 Finca Cortesín can boast of being the first golf course with ecological Bermuda grass.
Experience in golf tournaments: it has extensive experience in holding golf tournaments, such as the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012, Finca Cortesín Cup and Finca Cortesín Winter Event.

This is undoubtedly a great opportunity for those who want to enjoy golf, and for those who are unaware of the privileges of living on the Costa del Sol, a wonderful place surrounded by sea, natural landscapes, leisure areas and golf courses.
It is also without doubt the perfect opportunity to showcase all the virtues of this corner of Spain to foreign and national tourists.
