Ronda, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain

Do you know about the charming villages of the Sierra de Málaga? Today we want to tell you about one of the most famous: Ronda. A place where the power of nature and the strength of history play a leading role. Get ready to savour every detail.

Why Ronda is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain

The municipality of Ronda is located in a basin, completely surrounded by mountains. This very special spot gives you magical views from anywhere in the town. Its romanticism has conquered hundreds of famous people, such as Luis Cernuda, a poet of the generation of 27 poets.

1. The New Bridge over the Tagus

It’s one of the symbols of Ronda. It’s located on the imposing Tagus and it’s a huge engineering work carried out in the 18th century. It’s no less than 98 meters high. Contemplating the landscape from this bridge which connects the two parts of the town is wonderful. However, if you want to surprise yourself with the greatness of this bridge, we advise you to admire it from one of the viewpoints located lower down.

2. The Real Maestranza de Caballería bullring

Another of the parts which make up the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in Spain is its bullring. Ronda is synonymous with passion for bulls because part of modern bullfighting was forged in this special place. Hence, you’re lucky to have one of the oldest bullrings in the country. International celebrities like Orson Welles fell for it.

3. The walls of Ronda

Thanks to its privileged spot from which all nearby lands can be controlled, Ronda was a strategic point in history. Muslims walled it to provide it with double protection, especially in the area of the Arab baths. You can still see many of those walls which are witness to the passage of time.

4. Local cuisine

This town in Malaga not only offers natural and cultural beauty, it also conquers visitors through their stomachs. One of its star products is the forest honey which, together with the sought-after cheeses of the region, make up a dish with powerful flavours.

To accompany that delicacy, there’s nothing better than a wine from the area. They are full-bodied red or white wines which are well-looked after to achieve excellent quality. In recent years, much work has been done on the production of organic wine in wineries such as La Melonera,   where they respect the local product. Another winery full of history that offers exquisite wines is Descalzos Viejos.
